Pipe systems made of ECTFE - ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene

Ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE) is a thermoplastic fluoropolymer with a unique chemical structure. As a copolymer, it has an alternating arrangement of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene. This material is particularly suitable for applications where extreme demands are made on chemical resistance under high temperatures (e.g. free chlorine in the medium and 98% sulfuric acid).

Behavior of ECTFE under radiation exposure


ECTFE has good resistance to UV and gamma radiation as well as excellent aging resistance. Since it is a translucent material, the media are exposed to UV radiation.

Propagation of microorganisms on ECTFE


The surface of ECTFE is just as unfavorable a breeding ground for microorganisms as glass. This is the conclusion of an investigation carried out in the course of testing the HP suitability of ECTFE.

Chemical resistance of ECTFE


ECTFE has excellent resistance to most inorganic and organic chemicals, as well as to solvents. To date, no solvent is known to attack ECTFE below 120° C or caused cracking. Only contact with chlorinated solvents causes minor swelling. ECTFE should not be used for molten alkali metals or hot amines (such as aniline, dimethylamine). A significant advantage compared to other thermoplastics is the chemical resistance of ECTFE to chlorine and chlorine compounds even at higher temperatures.
